Alex Waller is Cheshire’s new Chief Fire Officer

Cheshire Fire Authority confirmed the appointment of Alex Waller as the new Chief Fire Officer on the retirement of Mark Cashin. With a career spanning 33 years, Mark handed over to his deputy who started in his new role on 1 October.

After a recruitment process that saw three candidates apply and two shortlisted, Alex Waller was confirmed as the new chief at the September meeting of the Fire Authority.

Bob Rudd is the Chair of Cheshire Fire Authority, he announced the appointment and said, “I am delighted to announce that Cheshire Fire Authority has appointed Alex Waller as Chief Fire Officer, following the retirement of Mark Cashin.” Thanking Mark for his long service, Mr Rudd added, “I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Mark for his inspirational leadership during his tenure, his dedication to public safety and equality, diversity and inclusion has been inspirational and we wish him every happiness for his retirement.”

Alex Waller has spent 29 years in the fire and rescue service having joined in 1993 at the age of 17. He has worked at all levels of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. Responding to his appointment, Alex said, “Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is bursting with amazing, dedicated staff with a laser focus on helping people and saving lives.  I feel proud and privileged to be Chief Fire Officer serving my home county and I look forward to leading a Service that is, without doubt, wholly committed to the safety of Cheshire’s residents and businesses.”
