London celebrates as its first electric ambulance takes to the road

The first fully electric ambulance to respond to emergency 999 calls in London went out on its maiden voyage on New Year’s Eve.

The new bespoke ambulances are part of London Ambulance Service’s ambition to drive towards a net zero fleet. More via Emergency Services Times

Mountain Rescue teams now using drones for short range searches

A number of Mountain Rescue teams are now using small, sub 250g, drones for short range searches.

New officer training to better assist those in crisis

Officers and staff will have access to new online training and guidance which will help them to better understand when and how best to apply Right Care Right Person and make sure vulnerable people are receiving the specialist health support they need.

This new training was released on 19 December and forms part of the national toolkit launched earlier in the year by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and the College of Policing. More via NPCC

National Coastwatch to provide ‘Coast Path Passport’ stamping points along the South West Coast Path

The National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) has become an official ‘Coast Path Passport’ stamping point partner, working with the charity which cares for the South West Coast Path, the UK’s longest and most popular National Trail.

The new partnership means that visitors to the Trail can now stop off at NCI stations along the 630-mile route to collect different ‘stamps’ in their Camino-style Coast Path Passport and find out more about the work of both charities. More via Emergency Services Times

Incredible images as giant ‘abnormal load’ is taken by road through Wales

A truck set to carry a series of huge abnormal loads through south Wales with an emergency services escort started its trips on Saturday night.

The extraordinary convoy will be carrying a transformer, a turbine and a generator from Newport Docks to Hirwaun power station over three weekends this month. More via Wales Online

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team moves into new HQ

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team has announced that the project to build a new HQ is now complete, and that they have moved into their new base following the year-long build.

A “base-warming” event was held last week to thank their major funders and supporters and give them the opportunity to tour the new building. More via Mountain Rescue England and Wales

Hertfordshire Constabulary launches Neurodiversity Champions

This week Hertfordshire Constabulary launched Neurodiversity Champions to help provide support to those with neurodiverse conditions working within the force.

Almost 30 volunteers have been briefed for the role provided by the constabulary’s neurodiversity team. More via Hertfordshire Constabulary
