Excelerate Technology partnered with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) to develop a new Incident Command Unit (ICU).

The ICU, equipped with an IT platform, integrates information for efficient incident management and communication. It features a user-friendly dashboard, simplified controls, and various communication technologies.

According to Station Commander Michael Carpenter, the new ICU significantly improves response coordination and situational awareness, enhancing emergency capabilities. Chief Operating Officer at Excelerate Bethan Evans expressed excitement about contributing to HIWFRS’s emergency response.

The unit includes a command space at the front and a crew area at the rear for efficient collaboration. Deployed for incidents involving five or more fire appliances, the ICU played a crucial role during Hampshire’s summer wildfires, providing aerial overviews and mapping information. This data empowered HIWFRS commanders and wildfire tactical advisors to allocate resources more effectively.

The HIWFRS Incident Command Unit is an example of how technology and experience can improve emergency response capabilities.
