NHS Confederation has teamed up with academia and consultancy, Newton to launch a new research project to ‘unlock prevention’ within the Integrated Care System and is seeking volunteers to help understand barriers to collaboration.

The project, involving the University of Stirling and the University of Southampton will look at what barriers to preventative health and care in communities. Patricia Hewitt recognised the role of prevention in her report on the first year of the ICSs, noting that despite the pressures on the NHS, she saw a ‘greater appetite to grasp the challenge of shifting our focus to prevention.’

The research team is aided by Newton and is seeking volunteers to participate in the research who have direct experience of delivering or overseeing preventative care and interventions. This would include the contribution of emergency services working in partnership with local authorities and other organisations to reduce health inequalities.

For more information on how to become involved in this project, email Annie Bliss annie.bliss@nhsconfed.org.

Sarah Water is the Director of ICS Network at NHS Confederation and spoke to Catherine Levin about the development of the Integrated Care System in the June print issue of Emergency Services Times.
