Gavin Ellis

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority met on 10 June and appointed Gavin Ellis as Chief Fire Officer. Gavin had filled the role on an interim basis in the absence of Lee Howell who was seconded to the National Fire Chiefs Council and has now retired from the service.

In the same meeting, Councillor Simon Coles was elected as the new Chair of the Authority.

“I am delighted to confirm Gavin as the permanent Chief Fire Officer after a rigorous and competitive selection process. I look forward to working closely with him as we strive to make people living in or visiting our counties even safer.”

Remarking on his appointment, Gavin said he feels privileged to have lead the service for over the last twelve months on a temporary basis, and is excited to hold the permanent role.

“I am proud of the service, the people who work within it and what we stand for in delivering our services to communities and partners. I will continue to work hard to provide the best service to those who live and work in Devon and Somerset or visit our two beautiful counties.”
