West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service’s new training centre and fire station for Horsham, Platinum House, has been named the Building Project of the Year over £20m at a recent SECBE Constructing Excellence awards ceremony.

Firefighters have occupied the sustainable fire station since July last year, with the overall site, including the new training centre, taking just over two years to construct and fit out.

The Constructing Excellence SECBE Awards recognise the very best construction companies, collaborations and projects from across London & the South East. The multi-million-pound project, commissioned by West Sussex County Council and delivered by Willmott Dixon Construction and AtkinsRéalis acting on behalf of WSCC, beat tough competition from a number of construction projects in the region.

The service said that the judging panel highlighted Platinum House as an ‘inspirational project’ that delivered ‘outstanding outcomes ‘that could be a template for others to emulate in the future.

Demi Shipp wrote about the development of Platinum House for Emergency Services Times in October 2023 and the team behind the project will be speaking on the Sustainability Stage at this year’s Emergency Services Show. Registration for the show is now open.
