The King’s Speech yesterday included legislation to help tackle anti-social behaviour, bring in Martyn’s Law and extend the duty of candour to all public servants. And the Metropolitan Police has launched a new recruitment drive aimed at driving up the number of new constables in the UK’s largest police force.

Safety and trust feature in King’s Speech

The King has set out the commitments of the new government in a heavily trailed speech as part of the State Opening of Parliament that includes legislation to help tackle anti-social behaviour, bring in Martyn’s Law and extend the duty of candour to all public servants. London district calls on police to stop live facial recognition use

A London district known for its Victorian architecture and the home stadium of Arsenal Football Club has called for the police to stop deploying live facial recognition (LFR) on its grounds.

Last week, the Islington Borough Council rejected the Metropolitan Police’s use of live facial recognition, becoming the third council in London to do so after Haringey and Newham. More via Biometric Update

A highly experienced fire officer from the north-east has been appointed as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer (LSO) for Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray (ACAM).
