#30Days30Ways UK is held each September and as it enters its tenth year, it has been taken under the stewardship of the Emergency Planning Society (EPS). Since 2015, the #30days30waysUK campaign has aimed to inspire and empower people and the communities they live in to be ready and better prepared for different risks – and their consequences – including flooding, fire and power cuts.

To achieve this aim, throughout the month of September each year, a daily preparedness theme is shared on social media using the hashtag #30days30waysUK.

Using a positive psychology approach including memes and light-hearted content, the posts link to information and trusted resources created by Local Resilience Forums and partners including the emergency services, local authorities, health, utilities, the voluntary sector and others. There is also a daily opportunity to be entered into a prize draw.

“#30days30waysUK encourages people across the UK to think about the easy steps they can take to “be prepared not scared”. These are unprecedented times that highlight the importance of personal and community preparedness and resilience.

“Excellent information and resources exist nationwide to help people to be better informed and prepared for all kinds of emergencies. Resilience is a culture of preparedness and there are small and easy steps everyone can take for their health and safety and that of their family, friends and neighbours. We look forward to sharing just some of those steps throughout the campaign.”

Jeannie Barr, Interim Chair, the Emergency Planning Society.

30days30waysUK.org.uk is a professional volunteer network consisting of practitioners, academics, emergency responders and agencies, the voluntary sector and many others. For more information, or to get involved in the campaign email: 30days30waysuk@the-eps.org.

The industry will once again be gathering at the NEC, Birmingham for The Emergency Services Show, co located with The Emergency Tech Show on 18-19 September, check out the full exhibitor list here. You can find The Emergency Planning Society in Hall 5, on stand S218.
