Health Secretary Wes Streeting has launched Change NHS, the start of a “national conversation” to develop a long term plan for the NHS, building on a recent report by Lord Darzi which said that the NHS is in “serious trouble.”

The Prime Minister and Health Secretary visited London Ambulance Service’s education centre and control room in Dockside. Accompanied by Chief Paramedic Pauline Cranmer, they spoke about their plans to have the biggest ever conversation about the future of the NHS.

In a joint letter with NHS CEO Amanda Pritchard to NHS staff, the Health Secretary said that “a different approach is needed if we are to make these crucial shifts and deliver an NHS fit for the future.”

“Over the coming months, we want to hear from you to help co-design this Plan. We are committed to providing unprecedented levels of transparency to the policy making process and targeting those whose voices often go unheard.”

In November, NHS organisations will receive a ‘workshop in a box’ to help run events with the public, staff and stakeholders. This will include a template to capture and share insights and inform the development of the 10-year plan.

Change NHS encourages individual members of the public, NHS staff, other organisations and Integrated Care Systems to complete online consultation forms from change.nhs.uk.
