An emergency medical dispatcher (EMD) who has helped thousands of people with “unwavering compassion and commitment” during a 15-year career at the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) has won a prestigious award.

Annette Clark, who is based in the Emergency Operations Centre in Hellesdon, was awarded the EMD of the Year at the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) Awards.

In addition to her award, Annette also received a Diamond Call Handling Compliance Award which recognises her excellence in handling 999 calls. In an audit of 999 calls, Annette achieved over 500 highly compliant calls which is a record number at EEAST.

The annual International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) Awards offer an opportunity for control room staff from across the UK and Ireland to exchange best practices.

The awards recognise individuals who exemplify leadership, going above and beyond under pressure while navigating complex situations.

“Receiving this award is truly an honour and I know how competitive the award was from the calibre of my colleagues who were nominated. I’m proud to work in a job which makes such a difference to patients’ lives every day.

“When I first began in 2009, I was stepping in to a world I knew nothing about. I was wanting to be a part of something meaningful, for my work to have purpose. All of this I’ve done in more ways than I could ever have imagined, so coming this far and winning EMD of the year means so much to me.

“I would also like to say thank you to my colleagues who not only guided and supported me but have also become true friends.”
