The Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission has drawn up a shortlist of five design teams, one of which will be selected to produce the Grenfell memorial.

The commission said all parties that had applied — some 28 multi-disciplinary design teams —  underwent a robust evaluation process and that the five shortlisted all have the right skills, capability and awareness of the Grenfell tragedy.

Due diligence checks were also carried out ensure that any team, organisation or individual potentially working on the memorial does not bear any potential responsibility for the tragedy.

The five shortlisted teams are (in alphabetical order):

  • Curl La Tourelle + Head Architecture
  • Freehaus
  • George King Architects x Grow to Know
  • New South
  • Office Sian

The commission will hold February ‘listening sessions’ for bereaved families, survivors and the immediate community, which will provide an opportunity to meet with the shortlisted teams. People interested in attending these sessions should contact the commission directly via its contact page or at GTMCSecretariat@communities.gov.uk.

‘The thoughts of the community are invaluable in selecting the right memorial design team and, later on, the right memorial design. This will help to make sure that the loved ones lost in the tragedy of 14 June 2017 are respectfully honoured and remain forever in the nation’s hearts and minds,’ the commission wrote in its January 2025 update.
