After more than three years as Chief Executive of London Ambulance Service, Daniel Elkeles has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of NHS Providers.

Daniel will join NHS Providers, the national organisation that represents every NHS hospital, mental health, community and ambulance service in England, in late May 2025.

“It has been an absolute honour to lead the country’s busiest ambulance service. It is an incredible organisation, fuelled by thousands of dedicated and compassionate staff who touch the lives of millions of people every single year. Working together, we have achieved so much in the past three and a half years, and I am so proud of the progress and transformations we have made.

The process of recruiting a substantive Chief Executive for London Ambulance Service will start shortly with the aim of appointing a new substantive Chief Executive before Daniel leaves.

“Since 2021 we have reduced the time our patients wait for an ambulance, we have improved how quickly we answer calls, and have introduced a number of innovative new services to improve care and ensure we only take patients to hospital when necessary. But I am most proud of the strides we have made in improving the culture and working lives of our teams. Focusing on teamwork and inclusivity has allowed us to unlock these improvements, and I would like to thank all of the staff at London Ambulance for all of their hard work and commitment.”
