Hunter has claimed two top prizes at this year’s British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) Awards, winning in both the Product Innovation and Safety Solution categories for technologies aimed at improving protection for frontline workers.

The recognition highlights FLEXGUARD® – a blunt trauma exoskeleton for public order policing – and Deconology®, a decontamination service for firefighter PPE that removes over 99% of harmful toxins. You can read more about Deconology® in a recent article here.

Taking the Product Innovation Award, FLEXGUARD® is, according to the company, the world’s first hinged blunt trauma exoskeleton designed specifically for public order officers. Traditional blunt trauma armour has long been criticised for being uncomfortable and poorly suited to the needs of a modern, diverse workforce.

Manufactured in the UK, FLEXGUARD® uses advanced engineering to provide protection at hinge joints such as elbows and forearms without restricting mobility. The design is also intended to enhance supply chain security, reduce PPE lifecycle costs and support UK-based manufacturing.

“The BSIF Awards are the UK’s highest recognition for health and safety innovation. To have FLEXGUARD® and Deconology® awarded in the same year speaks volumes about our team’s commitment, the strength of our R&D and our role as a driving force in PPE innovation.

“But the most important reward is the real-world impact. Whether it’s improving protection for public order officers or drastically enhancing decontamination standards for firefighters, our mission is clear: We protect those who protect us.”

Winner of the Safety Solution Award, Deconology® is, according to the company, the UK and Ireland’s first LCO₂-based decontamination service for firefighter gear, providing a more sustainable and effective alternative to water-based laundry.

While traditional methods typically remove just 15–40% of carcinogens, Deconology® achieves over 99% removal of harmful substances including PAHs and PFAS. The process extends the usable lifespan of PPE, reduces dependency on pool stock, and generates no water waste or chemical runoff. The technology uses low energy and recycled CO₂.
