Alexis Boon is set to be the next Chief Constable for Hampshire and Isle of Wight as the Police and Crime Commissioner confirmed him as her preferred candidate to take on the role after the abrupt retirement of the previous chief.

Boon is currently a Deputy Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police where he leads local policing in the capital. He started his career in Surrey Police in 1998 and more recently he led Counter Terrorism operations across the UK and run the Flying Squad. He was awarded the QPM for distinguished service in the 2021 Queen’s birthday honours.

Former Chief Constable Scott Chilton retired in April after Donna Jones, the Police and Crime Commissioner made two mandatory referrals to the IOPC and it confirmed that it was investigating Chilton for potential gross misconduct. The investigation is ongoing.

Deputy Chief Constable Sam de Reya has been Acting Chief Constable since then. Boon’s appointment as the substantive Chief Constable is subject confirmation by the Police and Crime Panel on 24 June.
