James Devonshire18 July 2025Updated:18 July 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) has appointed John Partington as its National Secretary, effective 1 September 2025, coinciding with the incoming National Board’s assumption of office.

John brings a wealth of experience to the role. He began his policing career in 1996, becoming Inspector in 2005. He joined the Federation in 2008 and after serving in the Metropolitan Police Federation he joined the PFEW National Board in 2017. John has extensive experience in pay discussions, allowances, pensions, and conditions of service having previously served as PFEW’s Deputy National Secretary from 2018 to 2022.

Academically, John holds a Master in Social Policy and Criminology degree and an MBA.

As National Secretary, John will lead on pay negotiations with the Government and play an integral role in setting the strategic direction for over 145,000 members.

“It’s an honour to be appointed as National Secretary at such a pivotal time for policing.

“Pay and conditions are rightly at the forefront of our members’ concerns, and I’m committed to continuing our strong, evidence-based negotiations with government that reflect the value, professionalism and sacrifices of our officers. They deserve nothing less.”

Mukund Krishna, CEO of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: “I’m delighted to welcome John Partington as our new National Secretary. His proven leadership in representing our members and negotiating on their behalf as we continue to make the strong case to government about pay and conditions.

“I look forward to working closely with him to secure the fair recognition our members deserve.”
