Quiet acts, big impact: celebrating the Unsung Heroes of the blue light community

The Emergency Services Show and The Emergency Tech Show are proud to unveil the Unsung Heroes campaign, a heartfelt initiative to recognise those in the emergency services who consistently go above and beyond, often without the recognition they deserve.

Taking place on 17–18 September at the NEC Birmingham, the co-located shows will host a special celebration honouring those whose commitment, courage, and care deserve wider recognition. Whether it’s a moment of bravery, long-standing dedication, or behind-the-scenes support, we want to hear their stories.

Nominations are now open for colleagues who have made a meaningful difference through acts big or small. Whether it’s a behind-the-scenes technician, a calm dispatcher, or a frontline responder who made an unforgettable impact, the goal is simple: shine a light on the uncelebrated stars of our services.

“This campaign isn’t about medals or headlines. It’s about heart. It’s for the people who lift others up, who show up every day with quiet strength, and who make this sector what it is.”

David Holden, Joint Event Director at The Emergency Services Show

The celebration will come to life on Day 2 (18 September) with a special “Unsung Heroes Happy Hour”, bringing the emergency services community together to share stories, raise a toast, and honour the spirit of service.

We’re inviting all registered attendees to nominate colleagues or teammates who embody the values that define the blue light community. Submitting a nomination is simple: just complete a short online form on the ESS website explaining how your nominee makes a difference.

You can register for your free ticket to the Emergency Services Show here, and submit your nomination here.

The industry will once again be gathering at the NEC, Birmingham for The Emergency Services Show, co-located with The Emergency Tech Show, on 17-18 September. Check out the full exhibitor list here.
