New Assistant Chief Fire Officer appointed at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the appointment of Leila Berry as its new Assistant Chief Fire Officer.

The appointment was approved by the Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire Authority on 19 September. It follows a recommendation made by the Authority’s Appointments Committee last month.

Berry brings more than 20 years of public sector experience to the role. She began her career at Nottingham City Council as a Health and Safety Officer before joining Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2010.

She went on to become Risk and Assurance Manager in 2018 and later joined the Service’s Strategic Leadership Team as an Area Manager the same year. In that role she has overseen several departments, including Corporate Support, Risk and Assurance, Operational Training and, most recently, People and Organisational Development.

Speaking about her appointment, Berry said she was “very proud” to take on the role of Assistant Chief Fire Officer. “I am looking forward to being able to use my skills and experience to contribute to the Service’s continual improvement journey in a different way,” she added.

“I am passionate about the work of the Service and our role in creating safer communities and welcome the opportunity and responsibility that the post brings.”
