Sarah Baker has officially taken up the post of Deputy Chief Constable (DCC) at Humberside Police.

Former Assistant Chief Constable Baker joined the force in December 2024 from the National Police Air Service, where she had been on secondment from her home force, West Yorkshire Police. Her 23-year policing career has spanned a wide range of roles, including roads policing, neighbourhood policing, CID and district commander. She is also an accredited Strategic Firearms Commander, a gold Public Order Commander and a Gold Multi-Agency Incident Commander.

She succeeds former DCC Dave Marshall, who retired earlier this month. In her new role, Baker will oversee the management and operational leadership of the force, with specific portfolio responsibilities for Professional Standards, Corporate and Legal Services, and Corporate Communications.

Reflecting on her appointment, Baker described the role as an “honour and privilege” and said she is committed to ensuring Humberside Police continues to deliver for local communities. “In a very short period of time, Humberside moved to being recognised as an outstanding police force in the UK, and I want to ensure we continue achieving and delivering the best possible service to our communities in the future,” she said.

Baker added that one of her first tasks will be to help shape and develop the force’s direction and priorities to ensure its vision is “focused, sustainable, and aligned with the needs of our communities, victims and workforce.”

She said: “Everything we do within the police service is about protecting the public and making them feel safe. It is without doubt a privilege to be in this position because you are there for people at the best and worst of times.

“I will do everything I can to ensure we deliver an outstanding service to our communities across Hull, East Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire. Humberside is a force that puts victims, communities, and our workforce at the heart of everything we do, and I’m very proud to be a part of that.”
