Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes are strengthening their rural fire and rescue capabilities with the introduction of two new Rural Firefighting Vehicles (RFVs) supplied by Emergency One. Designed to reach some of the county’s most remote communities, the vehicles bring faster, more agile response to areas where traditional firefighting efforts can be challenging.

Narrow country lanes, scattered homes and limited water access can slow down standard appliances. These specialist units are built to overcome those hurdles, equipped with a Mist-Tech pump system, 4×4 off-road capability and dedicated wildfire kit.

“Investing in our rural capabilities is about more than filling gaps today. We’re preparing for future challenges, from climate change to evolving community needs. Our goal is a flexible, responsive service that keeps every community safe. Together, we’re building a smarter, safer future.”

Aaron Ridgley, Project Lead.

The vehicles will initially be based at Chesham and High Wycombe fire stations, but can be moved as needed to ensure coverage across the counties. They are ready to respond to:

  • Agricultural and barn fires
  • Road traffic collisions in remote areas
  • Medical emergencies requiring rapid response

With warmer, drier summers increasing the risk of wildfires, the units are stocked with specialist tools and crews trained in advanced wildfire tactics. They are ready to tackle incidents across open land and moorland environments efficiently and safely.
