TSO, the official publisher for the Police Foundation, is proud to launch the new editions of Roadcraft: The Police Driver’s Handbook and Motorcycle Roadcraft: The Police Rider’s Handbook. Both titles are also available as e-learning courses that combine the benefits of the handbooks with knowledge checks and an e-certificate of completion.

Roadcraft and Motorcycle Roadcraft are the police handbooks for driver and rider training. They are used by all the emergency services and are a key reference for advanced driving and riding instructors as well as advanced driving and riding courses.

Guided by a working group of experienced instructors, Roadcraft and Motorcycle Roadcraft are essential training tools for police officers preparing for the demands of operational driving and riding.

New to this edition

New advanced driver- and rider-assistance systems chapters (ADAS/ARAS) – describe common assistance features and explore how technology can support safer driving and riding.

Key features

Updated content – includes new sections on ADAS/ARAS technology, electric transmission and information from cross views.

Practical guidance – learn how reflective practice helps you improve your driving and riding skills with step-by-step advice.

Illustrated for clarity – packed with detailed diagrams that demonstrate key concepts including observation links, overtaking, positioning and limit points.

Key benefits

Become a safer driver and rider – learn how to manage operational stress and time pressure in demanding situations.

Trusted by the best – provides theoretical and practical advice designed to prepare emergency responders for the demands of operational driving and riding.

Gold standard in police driver and rider training – incorporates the most up-to-date, evidence-based best practice.

“The skills and standards of police drivers are extensively used and tested daily, demonstrating the value of quality training. I am confident that the experience and qualifications of our trainers using the curriculum supplied by the College of Policing, and supported by Roadcraft, will continue to enable police officers and emergency response drivers to meet the challenges they face.”

Deputy Chief Constable Terry Woods, NPCC Lead Police Driving.

If you or your organisation is seeking a flexible learning solution for advanced driving or riding, the Roadcraft and Motorcycle Roadcraft handbooks and e-learning courses represent the recognised gold standard.

Roadcraft is also available as an app via the Apple App Store and Google Play. The app makes it easy to access learning on the go. Updates to the latest content are coming later this year.
