London’s Air Ambulance has appointed Dr Anne Weaver as its new Medical Director, following a joint recruitment process with Barts Health NHS Trust.

Dr Weaver has spent more than 25 years at the forefront of pre-hospital emergency care, helping to transform trauma medicine on the streets of London and beyond. In 2004, she became the youngest female doctor in the UK to qualify as a helicopter emergency medicine consultant.

Throughout her career, Dr Weaver has combined clinical excellence with innovation and education. She co-founded the UK’s first pre-hospital care programme for medical students, inspiring the next generation of trauma doctors. She also played a pivotal role in introducing the use of blood products in airborne trauma response, a development now adopted by around three quarters of all UK air ambulances.

“It’s an incredible privilege to take on this role, at a service that has been a huge part of my life for many years. One thing that has remained consistent throughout that time has been the service’s commitment to excellence, teamwork and innovation and I look forward to ensuring that those values remain at the core of everything we do.”

Alongside her longstanding work with London’s Air Ambulance, Dr Weaver has served as Clinical Director for Trauma at the Royal London Hospital.

The appointment comes as London’s Air Ambulance Charity launches its 15-year strategy, Hope Across London, aimed at providing rapid, world-class trauma care for the capital. Dr Weaver will oversee all clinical operations, ensuring the service evolves to meet these ambitions and continues to deliver care to the 2,000 patients it attends each year.

“Anne has been an inspirational figure in pre-hospital medicine for many years. Her leadership, clinical expertise and passion for innovation have already helped shape the future of trauma care in London. We’re thrilled to have her as our new Medical Director and know she will continue to push boundaries in the delivery of pre-hospital care for the people of this city.”

Jonathan Jenkins, Chief Executive, London’s Air Ambulance Charity.
