Why lifesaving is very much a family affair at the RNLI

Government unveils reforms in wake of ‘unforgivable’ Hillsborough response

The UK government on Wednesday unveiled reforms to ensure there would be no repeat of the “most unforgivable forms of institutional obstruction” faced by families of the victims of the 1989 Hillsborough football disaster.

West Midlands Fire Service crowned UK’s most inclusive employer for second year running

For an unprecedented second year in a row, West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) has been named as the UK’s Most Inclusive Employer, highlighting its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality.

In 2022, WMFS jumped to the No 1 spot after being placed ninth in 2021. More via WMFS

Scottish fire brigade and police unions call for UK Government to restrict sale of fireworks

The Scottish Police Federation (SPF) and the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) Scotland have urged the UK Government to restrict the sale of fireworks after chaos on Bonfire Night.

The unions have called for Westminster to ban fireworks from general public sale or to give the Scottish Government powers to do so. More via Daily Record

Buckinghamshire firefighters demand urgent investment at fire authority rally

Yesterday, firefighters from across Buckinghamshire called for urgent investment in the fire service at a rally outside a meeting of the fire authority.

The National Fire Chiefs Council has released four new/updated guidance documents on its website to support fire and rescue services with community risk management planning. The documents cover Risk Analysis, Hazard Identification, Decision Making and Process Evaluation.

Scottish fire station listed as ‘major example of postmodern architecture’

A Scottish fire station has been listed for its significance as ‘a major example of postmodern architecture’ in Scotland.

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) has designated Tollcross Fire Station in Edinburgh as a listed building at Category B. More via Yahoo! News
