Fire service teams up with AlorAir for creative drying solution

Air quality control company AlorAir has worked with West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service to turn an external container into a drying room at West Bromwich Fire Station.

The 20ft container has been split internally 50/50 with a room in the rear to situate the drying room in. The innovative space comprises of a cage which houses the dehumidifier, linked to the yellow air mover below and a fan heater which is controlled and limited by the boost timer switch.

The system turns on when the humidity is high (wet kit) and goes into standby mode when the correct humidity has been reached (dry kit) – this ensures that only the necessary amount of energy is used to dry the kit.

AlorAir ‘link’ the additional high force air mover to the dehumidifier as it is the air movement which lifts the moisture off the kit. Linking the air mover to the dehumidifier limits the use of the air mover to just the drying cycle. The fan heater adds additional heat to the room also speeding up the drying process – however this is also limited to 4 hours at a time, also limiting energy consumption.

The air flow of the dehumidifier, high velocity air mover and fan heater are all in the same direction, creating a vortex which returns all the air around the room and back towards the dehumidifier. The water removed from the air is then pumped outside to a soak away or drain.

The high and low hanging rail system is designed for maximum usage offering high level hanging rails for drysuits so they don’t dangle on the ground whilst drying. The split level and low level drying rails can be used for PFDs, ropes and other bits of kit.

Under the hanging rails AlorAir has added drip trays which capture the water from the wet kit before it gets dried up by the air movement from the system. The trays also capture any dirt that may fall off the kit, and can be easily removed for cleaning.

The industry will once again be gathering at the NEC, Birmingham for The Emergency Services Show, co-located with The Emergency Tech Show, on 17-18 September, check out the full exhibitor list here. You can find AlorAir in Hall 5, Stand F253.
