Axon brings real time AI tools to emergency services

With frontline emergency services under increasing pressure to do more with less, the potential of AI to reduce admin and support better decision-making is gaining momentum. We spoke with the team to learn more about their AI-powered innovations and how they’re helping emergency services stay focused on what matters most: keeping the public safe.

Can you introduce us to Axon and the role you’re playing in transforming emergency services?

Axon is a global public safety technology leader. We develop integrated solutions such as body-worn cameras, TASER energy devices, digital evidence management and AI-powered tools. In the UK, we’re helping emergency services reduce paperwork, enhance decision-making and ensure transparency, empowering teams to focus on public safety.

What are the day-to-day challenges for frontline staff that you’re aiming to solve with AI?

Frontline professionals are challenged by time-consuming documentation, difficulty accessing relevant information quickly, and communication barriers. Our AI tools – like Auto-Transcribe, Draft One, and Real-Time Translation – address these challenges by turning footage into searchable transcripts, drafting incident reports automatically and breaking down language barriers instantly in the field.

You’ve developed tools that turn bodycam footage into reports – what impact could that have on the frontline?

The AI-powered Draft One transforms body-worn camera audio into incident report drafts within minutes. It’s been shown to cut report writing time by over 50%, improving consistency and accuracy while freeing up officers to return to duty faster which is critical for strained services with limited resources.

How do you see AI changing the way policing and paramedic services operate over the next few years?

AI will streamline documentation, reduce errors and support better decisions in real-time scenarios. From helping officers navigate policy instantly to enabling instant translations during public interactions, AI will enhance responsiveness, increase transparency and allow agencies to do more with limited resources.

You’ve had early feedback from trials in the US – what are people on the ground saying, especially about tools like de-escalation and Draft One?

Officers have described Draft One as transformative, citing hours saved and increased clarity in reports. Our VR-based de-escalation and communication training has been praised for its realism and impact – boosting officer confidence and improving community interactions. These insights are now shaping how we bring similar benefits to the UK.
