A Philips defibrillator acts as your personal coach to guide you through the process of treating a victim of suspected sudden cardiac arrest. The AED provides real-time guidance through simple, step-by-step voice commands and CPR coaching.
A Philips defibrillator guides the responder with clear and adaptive voice instructions. The intelligent sensors detect at what step the responder is and adapt seamlessly to the responder’s level of expertise, empowering even the most inexperienced responders during a rescue.
Its unparalleled ease-of-use sets the Philips HS1 (above) apart: it is the only FDA Over-The-Counter approved AED in the world.
The European Resuscitation Council recommends never to interrupt CPR for more than 10 seconds (ECR Official Resuscitation Guidelines). With a time-to-shock of only eight seconds, a Philips defibrillator is among the fastest at delivering shock treatment after CPR periods.
Before you can deliver a shock, a Philips defibrillator automatically checks to make sure a shock is necessary and that the right, personalised therapy is given. For example, if you insert the infant/child Key in the FRx, or the infant/child SMART Pads Cartridge in the HS1, the defibrillator will automatically adjust to a lower energy level and modify the instructions to help you provide infant/child CPR periods.

The HS1 is a simple and reliable low-maintenance defibrillator. The FRx (shown above) uses the same technology as the HS1, however the FRx is rugged and can withstand rough handling, extreme temperatures, and dusty or wet environments. Rigorous testing includes withstanding loads up to 500kg and drops from 1.22m.
A Philips defibrillator performs more than 85 self-tests monthly, weekly and daily (including the proper functioning of the electrode pads). If one of the self tests fails, the device will start chirping loudly to warn that it is no longer ready-for-use. After pressing the flashing blue button, the device will tell you what action is needed. These extensive self-test routines and loud warnings make sure you can trust that a Philips defibrillator is always ready-to-go when required.
Frans Van Houten, CEO, Philips, said, “I am proud of the long and successful history of our automated external defibrillators – also known as AEDs – which have helped save lives every day for the past two decades. Today, we reached the incredible milestone of having shipped a total of two million AEDs worldwide, and we will continue to innovate and provide our customers with reliable easy-to-use lifesaving technology.”
