Babcock International Group has been awarded a multi-million pound five-year contract with URENCO, a leading global nuclear fuel business, for the provision of a fire resilience service at its Capenhurst site, located close to Chester.
The contract, which started this month, sees Babcock providing 24/7 fire fighting and command and control room services, including responsibility for meeting training and regulatory requirements for its people. Babcock will also manage and maintain Urenco’s appliances and equipment, as well as over 300 stock items of specialist support equipment. Babcock will employ onsite the Fire Station Manager, firefighters and control room operatives.
The fire resilience service will provide critical support on-site in dealing with routine activities and in preparing for and dealing with any immediate safety issues that arise. Previously the service had been delivered in-house.
Paul Wilkins, Babcock’s Director, Emergency Services business, said, “We are delighted to be awarded this critical contract as it provides a natural progression to our resilience capability within this sector. Babcock has considerable experience within the emergency services in managing fleets, providing customer support control centres and delivering training – as well as providing a fire resilience capability within the defence sector.
“We look forward to developing our relationship with Urenco, and delivering a range of benefits that include best practice, innovation and efficiencies.”
