Trailed at London Tech Week earlier in the summer, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that the first AI Safety Summit will take place on 1 and 2 November at the iconic Bletchley Park, once the home of the top secret World War Two codebreakers.
The event will look at the risks of artificial intelligence and how they can be mitigated by internationally coordinated action. The goal is to agree a set of ‘rapid targeted measures for furthering safety in global AI use.’
Confirming the date and location of this major event, the Prime Minister said, “With the combined strength of our international partners, thriving AI industry and expert academic community, we can secure the rapid international action we need for the safe and responsible development of AI around the world.”
One of the organisations already working in this space is Responsible AI UK (RAI) which is being funded by the Government through UKRI. Professor Elvira Perez Vallejos is Chair of the RAI’s Equities Committee and will be speaking on 20 September at The Emergency Tech Show in a session called, We should all care about ethical AI.
