Will Kerr OBE has been confirmed as the new chief of Devon and Cornwall Police. The appointment was confirmed after a meeting of the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Panel on 16 September. Mr Kerr was the preferred candidate of the Police and Crime Commissioner. The recruitment process saw five candidates apply with two, including Mr Kerr, successful at the shortlisting stage.
The report to the Police and Crime Panel proposing the appointment of Mr Kerr noted, “At interview, Mr Will Kerr demonstrated the breadth of his policing experience, leadership, and ability to command a force and engage at the highest levels with local, regional and national stakeholders. It was the unanimous view of the panel that he held the skills, abilities and qualities required to lead Devon and Cornwall Police.”
He is currently Deputy Chief Constable for Police Scotland. He has previously worked for the National Crime Agency and for the Police Service of Northern Ireland. He was awarded an OBE in 2015.
Mr Kerr will take up his appointment later this year.
