Building on an already substantial deployment of live facial recognition technology across London, the Met Police is to expand its use of static cameras in crime hotspots by the end of the year.
A legal review of the Met’s use of live facial recognition has found the policy is lawful after campaign groups claimed that its use had breached the human rights of a claimant mistakenly identified at a deployment early in 2024.
