West Midlands Fire Authority

As the government forges ahead with its devolution agenda in England, West Midlands Fire Service will move under the combined authority mayor meaning the demise of West Midlands Fire Authority which has been dogged by controversy since death of fire chief Wayne Brown in January 2024.

The government has confirmed the start of a ‘Best Value Inspection’ of West Midlands Fire Authority, naming Fenella Morris KC as lead inspector to look at governance concerns, whether the Fire Authority addressed a ‘culture of fear’ and how whistleblowing, grievance and disciplinary processes were used.
