CEO Daren Mochrie

North West Ambulance Service has announced that its CEO, Daren Mochrie QAM is stepping down from leading the service with interim leadership in place ahead of his formal departure from the service in November.

Daren joined NWAS in April 2019, moving from South East Coast Ambulance Service where he was CEO for two years. Prior to that he worked for the Scottish Ambulance Service.

The Trust said that Daren had led significant advancements in patient care and staff welfare, driving the agenda to improve ambulance service culture to create a safe work environment for all.

Mr Mochrie responded to the announcement saying he was leaving with mixed emotions, but felt it was the right time to go and explore new opportunities and “leave NWAS in the best possible shape.”

“I’m so proud of everyone who works and volunteers for NWAS and all they do, day in day out. Despite the many challenges over the years, we have a lot to be proud of and the organisation is well positioned to continue to deliver ongoing improvements and improved clinical care well into the future.”

Peter White, Chairman of NWAS, said that Daren has demonstrated strong leadership and unwavering commitment over the last five years.

“His strategic vision and dedication to fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation have left a lasting mark on our organisation and the wider ambulance sector.

“Personally, and on behalf of the Board, I want to thank Daren for his commitment and contribution. We wish him every success in his new role.”

A recruitment process for a new Chief Executive will begin immediately. In the interim, Deputy Chief Executive, Salman Desai, will step into the role.

Mr Mochrie also chairs the Board of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives but no announcement has yet been made about his role with the organisation.
