PSNI launches Race and Ethnicity Action Plan consultation

James Devonshire23 October 2024Updated:23 October 2024No Comments2 Mins Read

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is seeking people’s views on how it can better serve ethnic minority communities, officers and staff.

To help it develop a ‘robust’ Race and Ethnicity Action Plan, PSNI has launched a consultation paper which outlines specific goals and actionable steps to eradicate racial and ethnic disparities in policing.

PSNI noted: ‘This consultation is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences to help shape our approach. Your feedback will directly influence the development of this plan, helping us ensure that our policing service is engaged, inclusive and fair for all communities.’

Launching the consultation, PSNI lead for People and Organisational Development, Assistant Chief Officer Clare Duffield, said, “This plan recognises the impact of race and ethnicity on interactions between the police and the communities we serve.

“It seeks to foster trust, promote justice, promote good relations, remove barriers, tackle discrimination and create an environment of positive inclusion, regardless of background.”

Anyone wishing to provide feedback on the consultation paper can do so via this online form. Alternatively, responses can be sent via email or post to the Head of PSNI Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Unit, PSNI Lisnasharragh, 42 Montgomery Road, Belfast, BT6 9LD.

This consultation will run for an 8-week period, commencing on Monday 21 October 2024, and concluding on Monday 16 December 2024.
