West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service have a new joint home with the opening of a multi-million pound green building that sees them working side by side in Redditch Police and Fire Station.

The joint venture was managed by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner‘s estates team with construction carried out by local contractor, Speller Metcalfe. PCC John Campion called the completion of the construction project “a momentous moment for policing” for this Worcestershire town.

Redditch Police and Fire Station replaces the old fire station and expands into neighbouring brownfield site. It now houses administrative functions for both services, as well as a new fire station with drill tower and space for three fire appliances.

CFO Jonathan Pryce, a recent recipient of a Kings Fire Service Medal in the New Year’s Honours, said that the new building offered modern facilities that matched the needs of the police and fire workforce, adding that it is more energy efficient and sustainable with air source heat pumps and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Having now moved from temporary accommodation elsewhere, Temporary Chief Constable Richard Cooper said: “it is great to see this brilliant new station bolster our teams’ capabilities to serve the public into the future, for many decades to come.”

For more photographs of the building, see the project profile from Spellar Metcalfe.
