The Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust has appointed Emma Wood as its new Chief Executive.

Wood joins from University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, where she served as Chief People Officer and Deputy Chief Executive. She brings nearly 20 years’ experience as a Board Director across both public and private sectors, with a strong track record in senior leadership roles within the NHS and emergency services.

Her appointment comes at what the Trust describes as a pivotal moment in its journey, as it seeks to build on recent progress in transforming services and improving patient care across Wales.

Wood said she was honoured to take on the role and was looking forward to leading the organisation through its next phase of development. She emphasised her commitment to innovation, improving colleague experience, and ensuring the highest quality of care for communities across Wales.

Colin Dennis, Chair of the Welsh Ambulance Service, welcomed the appointment following what he described as a highly competitive recruitment process. “Emma stood out as an exceptional candidate,” he said. “She brings a wealth of leadership experience and a clear passion for people and service improvement. The Board is confident her expertise, values and inclusive leadership style will help drive the organisation forward.”

Wood will formally take up her post in early October.
