The Blue Light Card Foundation has announced the appointment of two new trustees, David Crews and Katie Pavoni, further strengthening the charity’s commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of the UK’s blue light community.

David Crews serves as a Station Commander for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, with responsibility for Merthyr Tydfil. Throughout his career, David has held several senior positions, including Project Lead for an internal mental health and wellbeing programme. He is also an active member of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Mental Health and Wellbeing Board and currently chairs a national multi-agency group focused on improving support for emergency responders following the death of a child or young person.

“I have sadly experienced the personal impact of being bereaved by suicide. This has provided a real focus on improving the support and provision available to emergency responders and our community. I am delighted to join the Board of Trustees and excited about how we, as a charity, can continue to improve mental health and wellbeing support for responders.”

Katie Pavoni brings significant clinical and academic expertise to the Board. A registered Paramedic, Associate Professor, and Course Director for the BSc in Paramedic Science at City, St George’s, University of London, Katie has dedicated her career to supporting those at the forefront of emergency response. She has been particularly involved in initiatives to improve mental health and wellbeing for paramedics in the early stages of their careers, ensuring they have the right support to thrive in such a demanding role.

“It is a privilege to join the Blue Light Card Foundation as a trustee. I am passionate about ensuring that those working in emergency services receive the right support at the right time, especially when it comes to protecting their mental health and wellbeing. The Foundation is doing vital work, and I look forward to contributing to its future impact.”

Emma Woods-Bolger, CEO of the Blue Light Card Foundation, welcomed both appointments:
“We are thrilled to have David and Katie join our Board of Trustees. Their expertise, experience, and passion will be invaluable as we continue to grow the Foundation and ensure that we can provide the very best support to those who dedicate their lives to protecting and caring for others. With their guidance, we are well placed to continue strengthening our impact across the blue light community.”

The appointments come at a time of growth and ambition for the Blue Light Card Foundation, which works to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the UK’s blue light community.

The industry will once again be gathering at the NEC, Birmingham for The Emergency Services Show, co located with The Emergency Tech Show on 17-18 September, check out the full exhibitor list here. You can find the Blue Light Card Foundation in Hall 5, Stand K176.
