Webinar connects veterans with armed policing opportunities in the CNC

The British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS) and the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) have jointly highlighted career opportunities for armed forces leavers during a recent webinar attended by more than 30 participants.

The session connected members of the Armed Forces Community (AFC) with serving Authorised Firearms Officers (AFOs), who shared insights into transferable skills, relocation experiences, and integration into civilian communities.

Attendees heard about the CNC’s mission, the role of Counter Terrorist Authorised Firearms Officers (CT-AFOs), the organisation’s Code of Ethics, and recruitment pathways, including specialist roles available within the force.

James Graham, General Manager at BFRS, emphasised the close match between military experience and CNC operational needs.

“Service leavers and veterans possess experience, skills and discipline that closely aligns with the operational requirements of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary,” Graham said, pointing to leadership, resilience, and decision-making under pressure as core strengths developed through military service.

He added that collaboration between BFRS and the CNC aims to “strengthen pathways from military service into armed policing and wider specialist roles that safeguard the UK’s civil nuclear sites.”

Established in 2009, BFRS works as a bridge between the AFC, employers, and training providers to support transitions into civilian employment. The CNC, which holds a Silver Award in the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme, said it is working towards achieving Gold status while continuing to promote fair recruitment practices and support for veterans and their families.

Both organisations said initiatives like the webinar demonstrate how service leavers can continue contributing to national security in critical policing roles after leaving the Armed Forces.

Interested parties can find out more about life in the CNC via the CNC Jobs website.
