The National Police Geospatial User-group (NPGUG) would like to openly invite anyone with an interest in geospatial tech, GIS, mapping, spatial analyses, photogrammetry, lidar and location intelligence to join our growing group of geo practitioners.

We have members from almost every force across the UK and we want to make sure that anyone who could benefit from the group is aware that we are here, rapidly growing in numbers and excited to see more new faces.

The group meets up several times a year via Microsoft Teams, we have presentations from Ordnance Survey, Bluesky, Police Forces, partner agencies and other tech providers. It gives our members the opportunity to see cutting edge use of spatial technology as well as providing an open environment to ask questions, learn about the subject and meet people who could help you with your own projects.

Our meetings are usually themed, with the Summer 2026 meeting looking at Imagery from drones, satellite data, and aerial photography from planes. We have talks from leading data providers alongside use cases and updates on what data is freely available to all Police forces as part of national contracts. The following meeting will be the Autumn meet where will be looking at more data driven questions, the evolution of AI and how deep learning is helping Police Forces identify specific features from drone imagery.

As the group chair I would like to welcome anyone with an interest in the topic to join the group by emailing me at Robert.goldsmith@devonandcornwall.police.uk

I will happily talk through what the group covers and how we might be able to help your Force get the most out of geospatial, after all, ‘everything happens somewhere’.

Join the Emergency Services Times webinar on geofencing which looks at how Lancashire Constabulary is using this to enhance operational capability in response to major incidents and day to day operations. Watch live on 11 June or on catch up. Register here – Escalation in action: from police incident to multi-agency coordination.
