15 years of the PawPrints awards

The RSPCA’s PawPrints awards recognises local authorities and public bodies for going above and beyond to deliver world-class animal welfare services. Over the past 15 years, the RSPCA has handed out over 1500 awards that recognise the work of local authorities, housing providers and the emergency services that is often done behind the scenes. The RSPCA says that this work is unsung and wants to recognise and celebrate these efforts. Last year, 70 awards went to representatives of more than 50 organisations across the public sector.

The awards are split into five categories: stray dog services, housing, contingency planning, animal activity licensing, and kennelling. Each category has three levels: bronze, silver and gold – with each carrying progressively more challenging criteria. 

There are also two special awards: the ‘Special Recognition’ and ‘Innovator’ awards. The Innovator in Animal Welfare award looks for inspirational and pioneering entries that demonstrate how an animal welfare issue has been tackled in an innovative and imaginative way. The Special Recognition award recognises individuals or organisations who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to animal welfare over the last year. Organisations can apply for an award with the winners being invited to an awards reception in Leeds.
