Met Police using innovative technology to keep women and girls safe

The Metropolitan Police Service is harnessing innovative technology to keep women and girls safe.

Part of the Met’s Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Action Plan launched on Friday, the force is using innovative digital processing software to break down stalkers’ behaviour into digital footprints. More via Emergency Services Times

First emergency ‘bleeding control cabinets’ installed in Liverpool city centre

The first six emergency ‘bleeding control cabinets’ have been installed in Liverpool city centre in an attempt to save lives.

Each bright-red cabinet is accessible 24 hours a day using a code which is provided by calling 999 and speaking to the ambulance service and contains a portable bleed kit, which can be used as a vital tool to prevent and reduce major blood loss before paramedics arrive. APCC welcomes police funding announcement

The Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) has welcomed the government’s recent police funding announcement.

Roger Hirst, Essex Police Fire and Crime Commissioner, said the announcement was “good news for policing”, adding that it “gives Police and Crime Commissioners greater flexibility in locally raised funding”. More via APCC

Alresford emergency services technology company celebrates expansion into Europe

Alresford-based technology specialist to the emergency services sector, Opses, is expanding to Europe following significant contracts across the UK and Ireland.

The business has expanded with the support of a funding package from Lloyds Bank to facilitate its ongoing product research and development.

Opses designs and installs specialist software and hardware into police cars, ambulances and first response vehicles to improve safety and usability. More via Hampshire Chronicle

NHS reports rise in numbers of 999 and 111 call handlers

Six months after NHS England published its first ever Long Term Workforce Plan, new figures show that there are now 2,600 handlers taking 999 calls, up from 2,400 – an 8 per cent increase on last December. More via Emergency Services Times

Worcester Safe Space van opens to help people on night out

A new safe space offering medical assistance to people on a night out has launched in a city centre.

The Safe Space mobile van in Worcester will provide access to paramedics and first aid facilities, as well as spare clothing and mobile phone charging. More via BBC News
