Kent Fire and Rescue Service will now provide extra support for its staff during significant life events as it confirmed it has enhanced its family policy to grant all staff 12 months full pay for maternity, adoption, or shared parental leave.

The service said that the change aims to ease financial concerns while people focus on their growing families.

“We’re delighted to be able to introduce these changes to our family policy, including enhanced parental leave, which highlights our commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive work environment.

“We recognise the importance of work-life balance, especially during significant life events, and we want to offer as much support as we can to everyone within KFRS and their families during these important times.”

Ann Millington, Chief Executive at KFRS.

Other key revisions to the policy include additional support for surrogacy leave, miscarriages or unsuccessful adoptions, and extended paternity leave for up to six weeks.

The changes form part of a wider review of KFRS’ family policy, which will see further improvements implemented across the service in due course.
