A fire at Forest Gate Police Station triggered a robust emergency response involving 35 engines and approximately 175 firefighters. The fire, which erupted in the mansard roof of the police station, resulted in the complete destruction of the structure.

The London Fire Brigade swiftly deployed three 32-metre turntable ladders and one 64-metre turntable ladder to combat the flames. Prior to the brigade’s arrival, around 60 individuals were successfully evacuated from the building, with no reported injuries.

The emergency call was received at 16:17, and firefighters from various stations, including Stratford, Leytonstone, and Plaistow, worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control by 23:08.

Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne, the London Fire Brigade’s Incident Commander, highlighted the challenges faced by firefighters due to the fire’s location in the roof. The use of 32m and 64m ladders, along with a drone team providing a strategic view, contributed to effective firefighting.

Concerns about the fire spreading to nearby properties were alleviated through the concerted efforts of the firefighting teams. Special operations were conducted to safeguard essential police property within the building, ensuring it remained protected and was relocated to a secure area.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Assistant Commissioner Goulbourne emphasised that due to the incident’s scale and complexity, the investigative process might be protracted.

Commander Kyle Gordon, overseeing the recovery operation at the Met Police, acknowledged the challenging night for officers and staff, expressing gratitude for the support from the Met family and partners during this difficult time. Despite the loss of the workplace, there were no reported injuries among Forest Gate police station personnel.
