NPCC partners with Women in Data to shape policing’s digital transformation

Women in Data has proudly announced a new partnership with National Police Chiefs’​ Council.

By joining forces, the NPCC aims to leverage collective strengths, share knowledge, and contribute to the overall growth of female data and analytics talent and show the diverse range of roles and responsibilities within data and analytics across policing. More via Emergency Services Times

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service has taken ‘significant steps’ to improve – inspectorate

During an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), a cause of concern was identitied at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

Now, a year on, the inspectorate has issued an update on the service’s progress against its actiona plan to address the concern, saying ‘significant steps’ have been taken. More via HMICFRS

NFCC warns of sky lantern event fire risk

The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is urging organisers of sky lantern festivals to cancel the events amid fears over fire safety.

The events, which the UK Lantern Festival claim are due to take place in London and Birmingham in May and June, say hundreds of lanterns will be released into the night sky, followed by fireworks. More via Emergency Services Times

Two Scottish fire and rescue heritage museums earn top VisitScotland ratings

VisitScotland has confirmed excellent museum ratings for two fire and rescue heritage museums in Scotland.

The Museum of Scottish Fire Heritage, located at McDonald Road Community Fire Station in Edinburgh, received a 5-star rating, while the Scottish Fire Brigades Heritage Trust Museum and Heritage Centre in Greenock received a 4-star rating. More via Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

Chinese fraud victims seek return of £3bn in bitcoin seized in UK

Thousands of Chinese victims of an investment fraud are calling on Beijing to seek the return of more than £3bn worth of bitcoin seized in the UK.

A group representing victims of a £5bn scam run by Chinese company Tianjin Lantian Gerui Electronic Technology submitted a letter this week to the foreign ministry in Beijing asking it to launch negotiations with the UK government for recovery of bitcoin bought with their money. Air Ambulance boss embarks on epic fundraising trek

The chief executive of The Air Ambulance Service (TAAS) is embarking on a 197km (122m) trek to raise funds for the live-saving charity.

Peta Wilkinson will undertake the Camino De Santiago – a collection of pilgrim routes across Europe to a cathedral in Spain. More via BBC News

Police investigate after faulty mobile phone data used in evidence

Police forces have begun trawling through crime and counter-terrorism intelligence reports after faulty mobile phone data is believed to have been submitted as evidence in criminal cases for over a year.

It is understood experts are now manually checking databases for information provided by O2, amid concerns the problem could cause trials to be further delayed or convictions challenged. More via Evening Standard

Shropshire fire service invests in new technology and innovations

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is soaring to new heights with digital innovations. The service has introduced a range of new technology, including drones, body worn cameras, live streaming cameras and tablets to further advance the way it tackles fires and manage other incidents.
