Avon and Somerset Police is tralblazing when it comes to electric vehicle (EV) adoption, having put 49 EVs into service with plans for many more, according to a new report. And a 49-year-old female from Leeds has been found guilty of terrorism offences after she failed to disclose information relating to a terror attack to police.

Avon and Somerset Police leading the way in EVs

Avon and Somerset‘s journey towards a zero-emission fleet of vehicles has been recognised as leading the way in the policing sector.

The recognition stems from the 2024 Electric Fleet Race, run by Rightcharge, which is a monthly insight into organisations who have shown real commitment to delivering a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) fleet. More via Emergency Services Times

Scottish police chief vows force will not become a ‘reactive’ service

Scotland’s police chief has vowed to stop her force becoming a ‘reactive’ service that can only respond to serious crime.

Chief Constable Jo Farrell spoke out as growing budget pressures mean the service will soon no longer be able to fully investigate ‘minor’ crime anywhere in the country. More via Mail Online

Bedfordshire fire service enhances drone capabilities

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) has announced the expansion and enhancement of its operational capabilities with new drone technology.

BFRS has invested in the DJI Mavic 3 Thermal Enterprise Drone (DJI 3T). With one unit stationed at Harrold and another at Leighton Buzzard, alongside a smaller drone for indoor operations based at Leighton Buzzard, the service now has the capability to swiftly deploy drones to incidents across the region. Young people buying large knives on Telegram and TikTok, police say

Young people are using sites such as Telegram and TikTok to buy large knives for use in attacks and intimidation, with some linked to Britain’s drug wars, police said.

Stephen Clayman, national lead for knife crime for the National Police Chiefs’ Council, made it clear on Tuesday that police want tougher action after a 7% year-on-year rise in knife offences, with a 20% rise in knife-point robberies. More via The Guardian

More NHS hospitals leaving patients in corridors to free up ambulances

More and more UK hospitals are leaving patients in corridors due to a lack of bed space. NHS bosses say so-called corridor care is freeing up ambulances and saving lives, but BBC Newsnight has spoken to patients who say the growing practice is humiliating and degrading. More via BBC News

Mother convicted for not telling police about terror plot

A 49-year-old female has been found guilty of terrorism offences at Leeds Crown Court.

Nabeela Anjum was charged by Counter Terrorism Policing North East in October 2023 after police produced a chronological timeline of WhatsApp messages and calls evidencing that she had failed to disclose information relating to a terror attack. More via Counter Terrorism Policing

Sepura to supply ambulance trusts with 16,500 radios

Sepura has provided further details on a contract from the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to supply next-generation communications devices to 11 English ambulance trusts.

The agreement includes the delivery of over 16,500 new SCL3 broadband hand-portable devices, a full eco-system of accessories and powerful Mobile Device Management (MDM) service. More via Sepura
