Date set for publication of Grenfell Tower Inquiry phase 2 report

Grenfell Tower in west London.

The Grenfell Tower Inquiry team has confirmed that the second report by Inquiry chair, Sir Martin Moore-Bick will be published on 4 September 2024.

Coming nearly five years after the phase one report where the inquiry looked at the response to the fire, this report focuses on how the west London tower block came to be covered in flammable cladding and is likely to be even longer than the 2019 report.

The core participants – those who held a particular status in the context of the Inquiry, including the bereaved, survivors and residents – were informed about the publication date first and will also see an embargoed version of the report on 3 September.

Earlier this week, the Met Police revealed the extent of the criminal investigation into the fire and senior officers said that they too would need sight of the Inquiry’s phase two report in order to complete their work. The Crown Prosecution Service said that they did not expect criminal charges to be brought before the end of 2026.

For a detailed look at the complexity of the array of organisations involved in the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower in the years leading up to the 2017 fire, read Pete Apps article, Broken promises and delay, seven years on and still no justice for Grenfell community.
