Nottinghamshire Police introduce new drone car | Ambulance terror response fear over hospital delays

An adapted SUV, which can transport drones fully assembled, will help Nottinghamshire Police deploy aircraft quicker once arriving at the scene of an incident. And Welsh ambulance chiefs have warned they may not be able to respond properly to terror attacks because of hospital handover delays.

Nottinghamshire Police introduce new drone car

Nottinghamshire Police’s drones team will be able to provide a quicker, more reliable service in the future thanks to a newly adapted vehicle.

The SUV will allow pilots to travel to deployments with fully assembled aircraft, saving vital minutes on the ground. More via Emergency Services Times

Essex Police reveal plans for new facial recognition technology

Essex Police is planning to implement new facial recognition technology and has advertised for a contract to procure the “cutting edge” technology.

A £400,000 deal has been posted on the Government website for bidders to submit offers for hardware, technical support services, and software support. More via Essex Echo

Suspended Northants police chief ‘wore fake Falklands War medal’, hearing told

A suspended police chief wore a fake Falklands War medal and lied about his naval achievements, a misconduct panel heard.

Nick Adderley, the suspended chief constable at Northamptonshire Police made “enormous exaggerations” and “built military naval legend” about himself, the hearing was told. More via ITVx

London Fire Brigade won’t attend automatic alarms unless they’re told there’s definitely a fire

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has announced it will soon stop attending automatic fire alarms in most non-residential buildings, unless they are told a fire is definitely happening.

The LFB believes the move – which will affect buildings like office blocks and industrial estates – will save firefighters valuable time, as less than one per cent of automatic fire alarms are triggered by genuine fires. More via The Standard

Ambulance terror response fear over hospital delays

Ambulance chiefs in Wales say they may not be able to respond properly to terror attacks because of hospital handover delays.

It follows a report highlighting the risk of “catastrophic harm” to the public if crews are busy at A&E departments during major incidents. More via BBC News

Crews ‘exhausted’ as service spends £350k on cover

A fire service spent £350,000 plugging staffing shortages thousands of times in a year, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request revealed.

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (ECFRS) moved firefighters from their usual bases to elsewhere in the county on 2,570 occasions in 2023. More via BBC News
