A new crime fighting partnership is hitting the fields and farms of Oxfordshire to tackle crimes such as fly-tipping, burglaries and theft in rural areas. And West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has appointed Matt Cook as its new Deputy Chief Fire Officer.

New partnership aims to tackle crime in rural areas

A new crime fighting partnership is hitting the fields and farms of rural Oxfordshire. The Rural Crime Partnership is bringing together Thames Valley Police, West Oxfordshire, South Oxfordshire, Vale of the White Horse District Councils and the Community Safety Partnerships to tackle crimes such as fly-tipping, burglaries and theft in rural areas. Policing boss takes Home Office to court over ‘unfair’ funding

A Conservative policing chief is taking the Home Office to court over its “unfair” and “outdated” funding formula for forces which is based on pubs per square mile and discriminates against rural areas. More via The Telegraph

RSPB and Dorset fire service launch wildfire campaign

A new campaign has been launched to help prevent wildfires this summer.

The RSPB and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) have teamed up, alongside several other fire services around the UK to raise awareness and provide tips to protect people and the countryside from the dangers of wildfires. More via Dorset Echo

Brits aren’t ready for major airport security changes, warns expert

A travel expert has warned that four out of five Brits are unaware of a new security rule introduced this year.

The Government announced earlier this year that major airports would have to implement new scanners by 1 June. These scanners would allow passengers to carry two litres of liquids in their hand luggage on planes and keep items like laptops in their bags. More via Manchester Evening News

Fire service appoints new Deputy Chief Fire Officer

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has appointed Matt Cook as its new Deputy Chief Fire Officer.

Matt previously served as the Interim Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and will join the service later this year. More via Sussex World

Many former police and fire ministers standing down as MPs prior to the general election

After the Prime Minister called a snap general election last week, more and more MPs confirmed that they would not be standing again. The list includes many former ministers who have been responsible for fire, police or both as the portfolios merged in recent years. More via Emergency Services Times
