Alzheimer’s Research UK estimates that 944,000 people in the UK are living with dementia. In response to this growing issue, North Wales Police and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) are expanding the rollout of the ‘Living Better with Dementia’ film series.

Originally launched in March, these films aim to enhance understanding of dementia. Due to their successful debut, additional screenings are scheduled in Broughton and Llandudno Junction, funded by North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin. These screenings intend to spread the films’ crucial message about living well with dementia throughout North Wales.

The upcoming events are set for 11 June, at Cineworld Broughton Shopping Park and 1 October at Cineworld Llandudno Junction, both from 3-5pm. Each screening will be followed by a Q&A session on dementia-related health and policing issues, driven by audience questions. Topics might include living well with dementia, safety, home protection and assistance for missing persons. To attend the screenings, click here.

Professor Tracey Williamson, Consultant Nurse for Dementia at BCUHB, initiated the films. She hopes they will foster better dementia awareness and guidance on seeking help and living well with the condition. The series consists of five films, covering topics from understanding dementia to future planning.

“The number of people living with dementia is increasing year on year, so it’s vital that we help them with day-to-day challenges and concerns. This event is one of two that we have planned in the next few months, thanks to the funding support from our North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner.”

Sergeant Beth Jones of North Wales Police.

The events, funded by the Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Division of BCUHB and Eternal Media Ltd, are free and open to all. An information stand with dementia-related literature will be available.

“The event is another great example of partnership working in North Wales and will be a valuable opportunity for citizens to hear what is happening in health and policing locally and ask questions.”
