‘Urgent need for reform’ in Welsh fire service, concludes report | Bleed control kits installed at more fire stations

The Senedd’s Equality and Social Justice Committee has published the report of its inquiry into the governance of the three fire and rescue services in Wales, concluding that there is an urgent need for reform, as those in charge may not ‘fully grasp the scale of the challenge ahead’. And Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has installed specialist kits designed to save the lives of stab victims outside all 17 of its fire stations.

Ambulance staff have witnessed patients dying because of delays, study suggests

One in four ambulance workers has witnessed the death of a patient caused by delays in the past three years, research suggests.

According to the survey of people working in the ambulance service across the UK, two in five had spent an entire shift waiting outside accident and emergency departments in the same period. More via Shropshire Star

Hampshire fire service hosts RTC awareness sessions for emergency services partners

Specialist road-traffic-collision rescue experts from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) hosted an emergency services development session for partners this week at the service’s headquarters in Eastleigh.

Trainers from the Learning and Development department put together the day to offer those across the fire, police and ambulance services, as well as highways teams, the opportunity to enhance their understanding and learn more about how HIWFRS operate at the scene of a road traffic incident. ‘Most broken man’ medics had ever seen sets his sights on Everest

A man described by medics as the “most broken man” they had ever helped from a crash, has set his sights on trekking to Everest base camp.

Simon Clark was temporarily paralysed following a fatal crash in October 2019 which killed his partner, but has since recovered the ability to walk and returned to thank Great Western Air Ambulance Charity medics for saving him. More via BBC News

Dräger donate HPS Safeguard helmets to global firefighter fitness challenge

Dräger has donated five HPS Safeguard helmets to a group of firefighters who regularly compete in global firefighter fitness competitions to support their efforts and promote fitness as a means of furthering firefighter health. More via Emergency Services Times

Bleed control kits installed at more fire stations

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has installed specialist kits designed to save the lives of stab victims outside all 17 of its fire stations.

The bleed control kits contain bandages and gauzes which can help provide emergency first aid to someone suffering from a life-threatening wound. More via BBC News
