Wiltshire Air Ambulance pilots say the trend of drone collisions is going up. And the first episode of the final series of Channel 4 programme ‘Emergency’ aired last night (12 August), with the remaining three episodes due to be broadcast over the next three nights at 9pm.

An air ambulance service said it has experienced some near-collisions involving drones.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance pilots says the trend of drone collisions is going up and they are seeing more people fly drones over accident sites. More via BBC News

Riots show Britain has lost respect for the police, says Home Secretary

Britain’s riots showed there has been a loss of respect for the police and ‘people feel as though crime has no consequences’, the Home Secretary has said.

Following a fortnight of violent disorder, Yvette Cooper admitted there was a need to rebuild ‘respect for the police, respect for the law, and respect for each other’. More via Mail Online

Sodexo secures two-year extension with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has chosen to retain Sodexo for its soft FM services for a further two years.

The extension strengthens Sodexo’s partnership with the UK’s largest fire service. Over 370 colleagues provide a range of soft FM services including food and hospitality, cleaning, waste management, caretaking, security services and grounds maintenance. More via Sodexo

Discarded battery started recycling yard blaze

A large fire at a recycling yard that caused mainline train services to be disrupted was caused by a discarded battery, according to a fire service.

Eighty firefighters were called to Sackers scrap metal recycling yard at Great Blakenham, near Ipswich, on Thursday. More via BBC News

Lightning strikes across West Midlands cause homes to catch fire

Emergency services raced to homes across the West Midlands today as lightning struck amid a storm. Fire crews were first deployed as a bolt sparked a fire at a property in Lower Gornal. More via Birmingham Live
