Cambridgeshire hotspot funding extends use of ‘Problem Solving Coordinators’

In a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour in Cambridgeshire, Police and Crime Commissioner Darryl Preston is using some of his £1m of hotspot policing money to continue funding coordinators in the county’s community safety partnerships and giving them the chance to bid for support to highly targeted initiatives to have greatest impact in local areas.

Problem-Solving Coordinators work with communities and partners to resolve issues and help the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner meet the priorities set out in his Police and Crime Plan. With one coordinator for each of the county’s six Community Safety Partnerships (CSP), they work closely with local councils, police, fire and community representatives to address local issues that the police are unable to solve alone. This announcement means that the positions will remain in place to the end of March 2026.

From local initiatives to reduce anti-social behaviour which includes fly-tipping of rubbish, through to extra security resources to deter and detect crime, the Commissioner says he is making up to £10k available in each CSP area.

“Our CSPs have achieved phenomenal results since our Problem-Solving Coordinators were first introduced, and I am pleased we now have these posts in place in every area of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

“Their work has been boosted by funding from my Safer Communities Fund to address the root causes of nuisance behaviour and secure new equipment and resources to help detect and deter crime. The continuation of this funding will support further solutions to make our communities stronger and more resilient to anti-social behaviour and disorder.”

Examples of work carried out by the Problem-Solving Coordinators include facilitated monthly multi-agency meetings to tackle ASB and criminal behaviour on buses; taking the lead in the development of town and parish newsletters highlighting the work of the CSP; and linking up with businesses affected by anti-social behaviour as part of a multi-agency approach.

Find out more about how police forces are using the £66m fund to tackle anti-social behaviour in this round up from Emergency Services Times. And how the Leicestershire PCC is tackling the same problems with new patrols in Leicester City Centre.
